be still my heart

In a year, she went from this:

To this:

And at one year, this:

I mean, really?
Be. Still. My. Heart.

She oozes charm and is so incredibly beautiful.

And her parents… It was very sweet watching them dote over her. Their faces just lit up, as did hers.

Sweet little “J”, you have been a JOY to photograph this past year. You and your parents are very special to me and I am so grateful to be part of your lives.

my friend

I have this friend, this beautiful sweet friend, who called on me to take maternity photos for her. And I was so happy she did.

She is an extraordinary person…

With a super cute daughter.

And a son on the way. (Sure to also be super cute.)

She has a heart that loves and cares for others deeply.

And a family that loves and adores her back.

She is one of the sweetest most giving people I know. And I am soooooo excited to meet this little one! Carson, Cooper, however he is named, he will surely be loved like no other baby boy this family has known.

Congratulations “A” family! Love you all!

ten perfect little toes…

A month before this session, we had a great maternity session with the family, shared here. This little guy rocked his newborn session too… It must run in the family.

Big brother loved on him the whole time, and little bro didn’t seem to mind it a bit.
I really don’t remember him crying once. He just went with the flow, whether awake or asleep…

Baby dreamland was VERY good to us…

Thank you Baby “O”. You were a dream to work with.
I hope you are still slumbering this nicely for your parents, at least every now and then…

in a year…

I love, love, LOVE photographing babies through their first year and right now I have a whole slew of baby plan clients hitting their one year marks. It is absolutely an honor, but also just so much fun for me…

because in a year, the growth is astounding.

I think there is nothing more precious than a newborn when I am in that moment, until I see that once newborn a year later. And then I am reminded again of how precious life really is. God does amazing things in our first year of life.

Mom is a highschool friend of mine, so its been a double blessing for me to photograph this little one. Thank you “D” family for a great year!

calm

This is one of my very favorite maternity sessions… Everything flowed for us – location, light, weather, gorgeous and glowing mama, energetic, but cooperative five year old, attentive and playful dad, and a great sense of calm. It all made for a beautiful session. I knew immediately how much I was going to love the images in post-processing and I am not disappointed.

Stunning, right?

I am really looking forward to meeting baby boy #2 in a few weeks. Best wishes to this lovely family and prayers for a healthy and joyful birth.

Lucky

How lucky I am!

Lucky to photograph sweet little ones through their first year of life… It is one of my favorite things about my job!

But also so lucky when I have a personal connection to the family asking me to do this. My love for photography obviously began in a very personal way – photographing those I love around me and then especially photographing my own children. The joy in my heart for this thing I do with my camera is taken to a whole other level of “special” when I am photographing a friend’s child. Not only do I feel honored to do this for my friends, but it takes me back to where my love for photography began. And why it began.

Just look at this child…
I see a beautiful little girl, full of personality and joy.
I see a sweet little spirit.

I see her mom and the warmth she has about her.
I see her dad’s kind eyes.

I see both of their smiles.
I see the playfulness that lives within their family.

I see the way she loves her parents.
I especially see the way they love her.

I most truly see all of those things, and more, in these images.

Some people say that I have a gift in being able to take great pictures. And I appreciate being told that. But I think my real gift lies in the ability to see the beauty in people and in how we relate to each other. That’s where my love for photography began… I am very drawn to the beauty I see around me. And more than anything, I want to capture it. Forever.

I thank all my friends who call on me to photograph their families. Thank you for letting me get personal and reminding me of my gift. It renews my passion. And makes me feel extremely lucky.

Off to a great start!

The end of the year moves at a faster pace than I can keep up with. In fact, I don’t think I “keep up” at all. I feel like the runner who comes in last, barely crawling over the finish line. And then just needs a long winter nap. To make up for that holiday frenzy, I take the beginning of the year as slowly as I can. I definitely need that time to balance myself out and recharge… Necessary so I can get back to my family. But also quite necessary so I can have the energy for precious little ones that I just adore photographing.

And how about these beautiful sisters for my first session of the year? Things are definitely off to a great start!

Twin girls and just lovely. Their blue eyes, eyelashes, rosy little lips… Adorable babies.

But what’s really telling is their big sister who just turned three.

(Oh yeah, definitely three.)

Do we even dare imagine what these poor parents are going to be up for with a beauty like this one and two more who will definitely follow in her footsteps?

But also to imagine how full their hearts must be for their three beautiful girls; how blessed and grateful they must feel for them every single day; and how there is so much joy in store for this family in the many years to come. It really goes all too quickly. Enjoy…

Because with the blink of an eye, she was three…

“Hey Mom and Dad!”

“Just hanging out, waiting for this photographer chick to finish my photos.”

“She’s working hard though,

and she keeps telling me how much I remind her of her own son at my age. She gets a little weepy about it, but mostly, I make her smile.”

“Sort of like this.”

“Just a little longer mom and dad. I promise it will be worth the wait.”
