family by friendship

Another set of three gorgeous girls… Not totally related, but bound strongly by friendship.
These girls were AMAZING. All were perfect models. The two older girls were a photographer’s dream… They did exactly what you asked them to do and did it with heart. You can’t totally tell, but it was very windy and cold. The girls were freezing. But they were troopers. One thing I found funny as I’ve been working through the photos is that they didn’t even blink. And I took a lot of photos! The baby of the bunch was also very impressive, especially since this was her first trip to the beach! Many babies will either cry when you set them down on the sand or they will be so engrossed in it that they will not look up for anything. This little girl wanted to sit in the sand and then she gave us these gorgeous smiles as you see here. It was just too great.
Almost ready with your gallery folks!
I wish everyone a wonderful and blessed Thanksgiving Day!

more puddin’
Posted on November 25, 2008
If the last post wasn’t enough for you, get a load of her big sisters ~
The child in the middle first ~
Sorry mom, I know this pic is like fast forwarding through time about ten years. And if I were you, that would make me a bit sad. Yeah, you’re in for it.
Just to share a bit with my readers, this little girl is the toughest of the three to make eye contact with. She for sure is a look-away-er where the camera is concerned. So this shot and the others I got make me especially happy. Isn’t she super-photogenic?
And mom, I’ll take you back to the little girl you currently know and love ~
I LOVE these next shots of the oldest sister ~
I definitely picked up on a new willingness to be in front of the camera from her this time around. I could tell she WANTED to have her photo taken. Always a joy for a photographer. She’s not a look-away-er (don’t you like how I make up words around here?), but its hard to get her to relax into a natural smile. Again, I am super proud of what we captured that day because these shots are nothing but “real” and reflective of her sweet little self.
And one of all three together. For sure took some work, but how cute are they all together?
Another thing I love about these photos… They are the children of a very close friend from highschool. I look at their faces while proofing and I see my friend over and over in all their funny and sweet little expressions.
Hope you enjoy my friend! Love you!

a few favorites – a sneak peek
Posted on November 17, 2008
Because I know they are checking, and checking, and checking… Here’s a little something for this family to hold them over for another day or so. I took more than usual at this session and I’m really feeling it. I had so many photos to go through, but SO MANY great shots… It’s absolutely worth it.
A few favorites ~

(Wait till you see my favorite favorite of this little guy.)
Talk about cute kids in this family, huh? ~

(Mom, this was the very first pic we took of the girls… Can you even believe it? Not sure if its my favorite because I am still finishing up the others, but I’m wondering how it couldn’t be).
I love it when I open a photo on my computer and it instantly makes me smile or even giggle out loud. (Some will relate; others will just think I’m plain weird…) Well, I can’t tell you how many times that has happened to me as I’ve been working through this session. All I can say is I wish these were my own family photos…

this photo makes me happy
Posted on November 12, 2008
SHE probably won’t be happy with me for posting this, especially because this post is ONLY about her and its just a single image post. But I love this photo.
Five reasons why this photo makes me happy:
1. Because her husband specifically asked that we take a photo of just his wife. I will never forget how as she was sitting down setting herself up for the photo, he was talking about how beautiful she is… And just so you know, the words that came from his mouth at that moment were coming straight from his heart. Absolutely a sweet moment.
2. Because how often do we have portraits taken of ourselves? Its always about the kids. And not that we shouldn’t be taking lots of photos of the kids, but its important to capture us through the years as well.
3. Because won’t her kids love having this beautiful photo of their mom down the road?
4. Because this lady allows me to come to her house once a month or so and “pretend” to scrapbook. Feeding me candy and yummy desserts, all the while allowing me to just be there, regardless of how much (or little) I am actually accomplishing.
5. Because its of Cindy! She is a very special lady. Has a gift for making others feel comfortable. Can relate and is very down to earth. Is kind and giving and a lot of fun! Don’t you just feel all that when looking at this photo?
And back to proofing the rest of their session! Thanks for letting me share a little something about this beautiful lady. I promise I’ll share her lovely family in the next post… or two.
ETA:
How ironic is this? The day I posted this was Cindy’s birthday and I had no clue. Can you believe that?

my last september session
Posted on November 12, 2008
“Check!” for September. It bugs me that I’ve shared a few recent sessions before sharing some older ones so now at least I’m caught up for September.
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE these photos and even more fun, they are for the family of an old high school friend. There are lots of things that make me happy about my “job”, but one of them is that it keeps me in contact on a somewhat regular basis with some old friends that are very special to me. AND I get to capture memories for them in print… that truly is an honor.
My friend and her husband have been blessed with two beautiful little boys. They for sure keep me moving, but they are a joy and I love watching them grow.
I love the antique look lately…
Just recently discovered reflection shots.
Their oldest boy truly didn’t want much to do with me. And that’s okay. I didn’t take it personally.

Mom and dad are very comfortable in front of the camera which of course makes my job that much easier. I’m jealous of this shot ~
Thanks my friends for allowing me to do this for you again. I mean it when I say its an honor. And its fun! Can’t beat that. Till next time…

back in september…
Posted on November 10, 2008
I had the pleasure of photographing two related families in a new spot I found in the Griffith Park area. It was quite a nice little find, especially since I don’t go out to L.A. very often.
One family in this session you have seen before ~
But the last time you saw their beautiful little girl, she was only a newborn and looked like this and this.
At three months, she looks like this ~
(obviously the baby on the right.)
At this session, I also got to meet her aunt, uncle and three cousins ~
I look at mom in this photo with awe and wonder ~
I personally LOVE having a little boy, but I know I have my hands full with just one! The word “active” only touches on what little boys are all about.
So one of the main goals of this session was to get a photo of the four cousins. Yeah, we had some challenges and these next two photos are pretty good representations of what we ended up with ~
But we did get a good shot of the babies ~
Actually caught both of them awake and not crying. Oh, and when I talk about awake and not crying, you seriously had to be there – One would cry, the other would be fine; One would fall asleep, the other would be awake. And they kept trading off in this fashion. It was pretty comical.
“You mean my brothers are not ready?”
At the time I thought he was the hardest to capture, but I came home with so many cute ones of this little guy ~
Almost took my lens out, but hey, got the cuteness.
And finally, a couple group shots ~
Weren’t those fun? It was a good session, though everyone was pretty tuckered by the end of it. Thanks so much to both families for allowing me to capture some special moments of your young families. It goes by so fast doesn’t it?
And in case you are wondering why I didn’t show any singles of that beautiful little baby girl… It wasn’t in the cards for us that day. BUT, her 6th month session is coming up soon. I can’t wait!
