my favorite age

Posted on May 30, 2010

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, the 6-7 month age group is my very favorite. It’s not that I don’t love babies of all ages because I most certainly do, but this age group is the cherry on top for me.

Maybe its because I have fond memories of my own children at this age…

100515_blog2

Maybe its because they are fairly easy to please…

100515_blog3

Maybe its because this age group is just happy and they [usually] smile lots…

Or maybe its because they are sitting up so pretty… and lovin’ every bit of it!

It’s all those things and then some. Did I mention that most can’t crawl away from me yet either?!

Photographing a six month old takes me right to that place in my heart that made me want to become a photographer in the first place. They melt my heart. And as a photographer, they put every insecurity to rest that I may have allowed to creep up on me and settle in. They hit the “re-set” button inside me.

To the proud parents of this little one, thank you for sharing your beautiful little girl with me. Thanks for letting her work her 7 month old magic on me.

Enjoy!

sneak peek: 3 month old sweetie

Posted on May 26, 2010

I so enjoyed photographing my good friend’s 3 month old. Funny because we could not get her to sleep for her newborn session, yet for this session she slept for half of it.

There is nothing sweeter or more beautiful than a sleeping baby…

And then she woke up (or we woke her up) and charmed me with her brilliant three month old smile: 100508_blog2 That’s when I remembered that smiling at this age just means everything to a mommy. All those sleepless nights and general exhaustion of the first few months is suddenly bearable and rewarded with beautiful smiles, twinkling eyes and sweet little cooing that only a 3 month old can give you.

It was a great session. Thank you Jenifer for sharing your little one with me. For sharing all your little ones with me. It makes my heart so happy to capture your family in photos.

Enjoy! Can’t wait to show you the rest!

Just so very very excited to share these photos…

I love shooting in the home environment – I love that its “real”. Its where the heart is of everyday life. And how cool it will be years down the road to see your home captured in photos.

I love that this couple just did their thing. They didn’t look like they were trying to pose. They were relaxed and they enjoyed the moment. It was awesome. If I’m ever doing photos for you and you find that I am giving you very little direction, just know that its because I love what I am seeing.
100502_blog3 And I know you will too.

Their home was beautiful. I felt it was a perfect reflection of them.

The mom-to-be and I shared by email a bit last week and she mentioned how busy she has been in this last month. It took me back to when I was in that last month before Emma was born. How I was supposed to be resting and soaking it all in, but instead I was running around like a crazy woman from Target to Target trying to find specific things for baby – things that I just HAD to have. Nesting. I know. I also remember my manager at the time telling me that this would be the last time for a very long time that I would be alone. And to savor it, reflect on things, and just enjoy the moment.

It’s true. Enjoy the moment for everything it is right now. But know that the anticipation of what is soon to come is just a smidgen of how beautiful it will really be.

And with that, I am a little choked up about now because I am so excited for this couple to experience the joy that I was blessed enough to experience twice. There is nothing like it. Nothing in the whole wide world.
